What does the decreasing insulation subsidy in 2027 mean for your home?

Anyone planning to better insulate their home — for example, by replacing single or old double glazing with HR++ glass or triple glazing, or by installing new plastic window frames — would do well to keep an eye on the calendar. The government has announced that the ISDE subsidy (Investment Subsidy for Sustainable Energy and Energy Saving) for insulation measures will gradually decrease starting in 2027.

What exactly is changing in 2027?

For years, the government has been encouraging homeowners to make their homes more sustainable to reduce gas consumption. Up to and including 2026, you can count on a relatively high subsidy when having insulation measures carried out. However, from 2027 onwards, this subsidy amount per square meter will be reduced. The reasoning behind this is that the market is now mature enough and technologies are more widely adopted, but for your wallet, it simply means you will get less money back from the government.

What about the double subsidy?

Currently, you still benefit from a favorable arrangement: if you have two or more insulation measures carried out (or combine them with a heat pump, for example), the subsidy amount per measure is doubled. Whether this doubling will remain in the exact same form after 2027 is uncertain, but it is certain that the base amounts will be lower. This means that the total subsidy you can apply for could end up being significantly lower than is currently the case.

What does this mean for your plans in Veenendaal and surroundings?

Many homeowners postpone sustainability measures for a long time because it remains a substantial investment. Still, it pays off to calculate using the current scheme. Suppose you have your old wooden frames replaced by insulating plastic window frames with triple glazing. By acting now, you still benefit from the maximum subsidy amount. If you wait until after 2027, you will pay more net for the exact same intervention, while you want the savings on your energy bill to start as soon as possible.

What should you pay attention to when deciding now?

  • Combine smartly: Insulating glass counts as one measure. If you combine this with cavity wall insulation, roof insulation, or floor insulation, you fall under the favorable 'two-measure scheme'.

  • Choose certified: You only receive a subsidy if the work is carried out by a recognized company and materials with the correct insulation value (notification code list) are used.

  • Plan ahead: Because the demand for window frames and glass remains high, it is wise to request quotes in time and discuss the planning.
